Making "All Products" Actually Mean "All Products" in Shopify's Editions Theme

Alright, grab a cozy beverage and settle in with me, because we've got a little Shopify adventure to embark on today. Kind of like that time when we decided to take a spontaneous road trip, full of optimism and a GPS that thought it knew better.

We've all been there when things don't quite go as planned in the digital world. Case in point: you click on "All Products" in your snazzy Editions theme, ready to showcase the gem-studded treasures of your shop, and drumroll... it’s a barren wasteland. I once had a similar experience with a burrito order. All the pieces were there for a culinary masterpiece, but something got lost along the way, and let's just say, I was left with a tortilla of disappointment.

Here’s how we fix this little hiccup. Because, much like fixing a leaky faucet, sometimes you just need a nudge in the right direction to get the satisfying flow of products appearing as they should.

Getting Those Products to Show Up

First things first, let’s set the record straight. If your "All Products" page is empty, it’s not because your ecommerce dreams are crumbling. Nope. You just need to give those sneaky products a little invite to the party.

Step 1: Confirm the Miscommunication

Think of this as a sit-down chat over coffee with your store settings. Head to your Shopify Admin panel. From there, go to Online Store > Navigation. This is where the magic happens - or in this case, where the confusion began.

Look for the menu where your "All Products" link is listed. Click on it like you’re checking up on an old friend. What we need to ensure here is that the link is correctly pointing to the collection that is supposed to hold all your products.

Step 2: Creating (or Rearranging) the Collection

If your “All Products” link was feeling a bit lost, we fix that by setting up a collection that genuinely includes all products.

  1. Navigate over to Products > Collections.
  2. Click “Create collection”.
  3. Call this collection something inspired like “All Products” – I know, we’re breaking new ground here.
  4. Make sure the collection type is set to Automated. This way it does all the heavy lifting by itself.
  5. Set condition to Products must match: Product price is greater than $0 – or any other criteria that fit your grand vision.

Step 3: Linking It All Together

We now play matchmaker between the collection and your menu link. Go back to Online Store > Navigation. Find your "All Products" link again.

  1. Change its destination to Collections > All Products (or whatever you so cleverly named it).
  2. Save like it’s going out of style.

Step 4: Take a Gander on Your Page

Time to see if the stars have aligned in your ecommerce galaxy. Head to your store’s front page as if you were a customer starved for retail therapy. Click on "All Products". Watch, hopefully, as your product catalog sprawls out in a wild display.

This Isn't Just About Products

Life is just a series of adjustments, whether we're aligning Shopify collections or recalibrating after a near-miss with a sidewalk puddle. Dealing with tech can feel like climbing a mountain with flip-flops, but little victories like this make the journey worth it. Trust us, no one gets out of this entrepreneurial trip without a little bit of a scramble.

As with most things that are challenging yet rewarding - like parallel parking or holding a plank longer than five seconds - Shopify gives us tools, but it's up to us to use them creatively. It's not about errors; it’s about learning through the process and occasionally muttering “I got this” when no one’s listening.

So there you have it. An empty page is just a puzzle waiting to be solved, with a little patience and a few steps. Go forth and impress yourselves and those scrolling curiously across your digital shelves. Feel free to bring snacks on the road - triumph is best savored with a little treat on the side.
